Torremolinos is a popular and charming seaside municipality of Costa del Sol, 7km west of Malaga airport. Check it out on our Map Page.
It was the first Costa del Sol resort to be developed in the early sixties when it was still a sleepy village. Its’ heritage is still visible through its surviving original fresh fish bars in the shopping centre, flanked by exclusive boutiques and gift shops.
Torremolinos was changed by the influx of tourists during the fifties and sixties. Its clean, sandy beaches, wide array of hotels, accommodation, restaurants, legendary party scene and activities makes an attractive and stimulating resort. Summer is definitely for the partying set. Out of season, Its Spanish face takes over. Its ambiance becomes warmer and friendlier, perfect for those afternoon siestas.
Temperatures can reach 85F to 100F during the peak summer months. During these times, this municipality transforms into Europe’s playground of choice for their annual vacations. Despite the relative heat, it is the ideal place to chill and have fun.
During the lower months of September and October, albeit sunny and warm during the daytime, the nights are generally cooler. Perfect for cuddling under the sheets after the day’s adventures.
During the winter months hotel rates are generally cheaper, perfect for those who want to experience the barriotic ambiance of this charming place. It’s a more relaxed time of year and temperatures can still reach the 60s, but with chilly evenings.
The paved and Old world-tinged, seven-mile Calle San Miguel promenade or Paseo Maritimo, the main aorta of Torremolinos is usually packed with a multinational crowd.
Drawing an endless flow of people because of the rows of shops and boutiques selling a kaleidoscope of goods. The old, picturesque fishing village of El Bajondillo is famous for its souvenirs in market-style kiosks and restaurants. This old fishing district could be reached via the Cuesta del Tojo at the end of San Miguel, through a steep flight of stairs.
The amazing coastline of southern Spain has long been a mecca for millions of tourists each year and Torremolinos Holidays provide the perfect setting for your summer getaway.
The beaches of Torremolinos show a more developed façade of the resort town. Hotels, apartments, restaurants and bars are filled during summer.
Towards the left of Playa Bajondillo, you will find the beaches of Playamar and Los Alamos . To the right, beyond Castillo de Santa Clara, are the beaches of Montemar and La Carihuela.
Paseo Maritimo, the seafront promenade, extends west to La Carihuela and Benalmadena Marina and east to Playamar.
You could enjoy dramatic rock formations and romantic sea views on your way to the La Carihuela quarter. A slice of La Carihuela life could be experienced with the scenes of Anise-drinking old timers, chatting over a game of dominoes amidst patios covered in hot pink bougainvilleas – a pleasant sight, especially under the sun.
This barrio is devoid of any tourists early in the morning, it would be the best time to experience La Carihuela life as it would have been 50 years ago. Have your fill of pescaíto frito (small fried fish) in any of their seafood restaurants and sip sangria in any of their trademark chiringitos (Beach Bars).
For those who prefer an alternative experience, away from the hustle and bustle, go towards the north of the main road that runs through Torremolinos. A more intimate setting of bars along smaller streets would definitely give you a chiller time.
For the younger set, a day spent at the Aqua park with their fun pools and exciting water-rides will just do the trick.
Right next to it is the Crocodile Park Torremolinos. With over 300 crocodiles from all over the world with regular shows and demonstrations.
To compensate for the concrete structures and high rises, an excellent program of beautification has been implemented.
On the outskirts of Torremolinos, tree forests with barbecue facilities and freshwater springs are an alternative to those who want to momentarily escape the salt and sand environment.
The town itself has been rehabilitated with the planting of more than a thousand exotic trees around the area.
Torremolinos offers a variety of activities for every traveller on tourist mode. Windsurfing, para-gliding, pedal boats and water skiing facilities are readily available for those bonding moments in this historic resort paradise. And…don’t forget the great nightlife!
